Meta tags are (becoming) history

Rob Manuel, who runs the tsluts weblog, has posted an interesting e-mail conversation he had about the future of meta tags and web site promotion.

In it, he and his correspondent discuss the merits of using link popularity to raise the profile of a site - and ponder on the future of meta tags.

But Rob points out:

I reckon you've got to now target your website for a specific userbase, and network with sites doing similar stuff to persuade them to link to you.
