Whatever you're publishing on the web, your site name is the most valuable asset you have, according to Carl Steadman.

A lame-name site, or (heaven forbid) one with a tripod.com/ or geocities.com/ URL is not going to build an audience because its owners clearly aren't "thinking big enough", he says.

Bluntly:

The name should be no harder to type than "free sex." It shouldn't turn conversations into spelling bees � was that "one2know," "12no," or "onetoknow?" And ideally it should fit on a baseball cap
